Mit Sonntag, den 20. September werden die beiden chinesischen Apps TikTok und WeChat in den USA verboten, wie das US Department of Commerce in einem Statement verkündete.
According to the statement: „The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has demonstrated the means and motives to use these apps to threaten the national security, foreign policy, and the economy of the U.S. Today’s announced prohibitions, when combined, protect users in the U.S. by eliminating access to these applications and significantly reducing their functionality“.
As of Sunday (September 20), the following transactions are prohibited:
1. Any provision of service to distribute or maintain the WeChat or TikTok mobile applications, constituent code, or application updates through an online mobile application store in the U.S
2. Any provision of services through the WeChat mobile application for the purpose of transferring funds or processing payments within the U.S.
Wilbur Ross, der US-Handelsminister meinte dazu: „Mit diesem Verbot zeigt Präsident Trump dass er alles in seiner Macht stehende unternimmt, um Amerika vor den Drohungen der chinesischen, kommunistichen Partei zu schützen. Auf Anordnung des Präsidenten haben wir Schritte unternehmen, um Chinas bösartiges Sammeln der Daten amerikanischer Bürger zu unterbinden und stattdessen unsere nationalen, demokratischen Werte voranzutreiben.“
Dieses Verbot gilt bis auf Widerruf bis zum 12. November.
UPDATE: US-Regierung schiebt TikTok-Bann auf
Die US-Regierung hat den am Freitag 18.9. für Sonntag 20.9., angeordneten Downloadstopp um mindestens eine Woche verschoben. Nun sollen sich Oracle und Walmart an TikTok beteiligen; Oracle soll künftig alle Daten von US-Nutzern verarbeiten und die technische Infrastruktur dafür stellen. Der Deal hat die Bedenken des US-Präsidenten nun offenbar ausgeräumt.
